Malaysia’s Policy on Immigration Issues (2000-2015)

Abstract
Malaysia is a developing country known for its peaceful multi-ethnic society, and English is widely used as a second language (ESL). These factors have attracted many immigrants seeking better economic opportunities and an improved quality of life. However, as immigration increased, concerns about national security also grew. It has been argued that the rise in the number of immigrants contributed to an increase in crime rates in the country.In the 20th century, Malaysia established institutions and implemented laws and policies to regulate and control immigration flows. These measures have continued to be enforced up to the present day. As a result of stricter immigration control and law enforcement, crime rates in Malaysia have declined. This thesis will primarily examine the strategies and policies implemented by Malaysia to reduce crime rates.
